Déjà Vu, At Once

After adapting my solo from Deborah Hay's 2009 Solo Performance Commissioning Project (SPCP) in Findhorn, Scotland, I revisit the performance score "At Once." More than a work of fixed choreography, the piece now constitues a container within which a conversation can take place. Speaking and dancing, thinking and moving, I pull from established philosophers and theoreticians, "conversing" with them in real-time despite their absence. Always existing between movement and word, the solo can take numerous forms, from a dance performance to a written essay. This ongoing new work puts choreographic authorship into question, and celebrates the joy of movement and the relief that comes from following directions.
